At Texture and Gloss we love transformations. In order to do our very best for you in the time allotted, here are some things to think about when booking your next appointment.
The Lingo:
Base Softener
A base softener is used to blend the hair that is not highlighted in-between foils. It is used to break up the darker roots that were not lightened, by gently lightening the roots 1-2 levels lighter. Ofter this process creates added warmth in the hair. Also known as a base break. Typical timing – 1 hour
Color
When color is applied just at the regrowth of the hair in order to cover grey hair or change the client’s existing natural base color. The color can also be pulled through the mid-shaft to the ends of the hair for an additional charge. Typical timing: 1 hour
Color with a few foils
This service is for the client who has a base color applied to their regrowth and highlights in addition to the color. Typical timing: 1.5 hours
Partial Foil
A partial foil means to foil only the hair on the top sections of the head. This is great for a more natural, “darker underneath” look, or in between appointments for a full foil to refresh the most noticed areas. Typical timing: 1.5 hours
Full Foil
A full foil service consists of placing between 45 and 100 foils around the entire head, depending on the person’s hair and color goal. A full foil includes foiling underneath your hair. So, if you pull your hair up in a ponytail or similar fashion, you will always want to have a full foil. Typical timing: 2.5 hours
Balayage
Balayage is a French word that means “to sweep” In this hair color technique, highlights are hand-painted or “swept” on the surface of random sections of hair. Lightener is painted on, starting near the regrowth and becoming denser as it moves down the section of hair to the ends. Because the color is swept onto the surface of the hair, the effection is a natural sun-kissed glow that is not as strictly patterned as normal highlights. Contrary to a common misconception, balayage is not a look itself. It’s a technique, where the process of adding highlights is done without foil-like traditional highlights. It is often compared to the natural effect of the ombre style. Typical timing: 3 hours
Bang Trim – this is a Salon Courtesy. Come in with dry hair and we snip -snip your existing bangs. Appointment needed. Typical timing: 15 minutes
Please note haircuts and blow-outs need to be booked in addition to any color service. Depending on the length of your hair a blowout will take approximately 45 minutes-1.15 hr. Cut and Blowdry appointments generally take 1 hr.
